Drop IE6 Support?

It was announced by microsoft that on Febuary 12, they would push an update that would replace all old IE installations with IE7. So now I'm pondering dropping IE6 support. I don't know how many businesses are still using windows 2000, or if it's even still supported by MS. I suppose we're going to have to see how some other projects will handle things. I'm going to keep a close eye on if YUI's definition of a grade-A browser changes as well.

Just to let you know, In big

Just to let you know,

In big organizations, update to new systems takes a looong time. In mine for instance, I have win xp sp2 but not 3. We were warned against it. We need to make sure "all" our products work on it.

Dropping ie6, as it seems you have (see my post in the help forum), means lots of people/corporations are left out. Not a good thing. And, frankly, I don't see why you would do this since dojo does the heavy lifting.

But! I'm a newby in the dojo world, so mabe i'm mistaking something.

FYI, I'm trying to make a support team management app with dojo. I **has** to work with IE6 minimum.

PS. As you can see, I'm posting all over the place. I just "re"discovered you guys and I'm reading everything!

Yeah, I see your point.

Yeah, I see your point. We'll definitely continue to support IE6 until MS forces an update.

@psych Tanks a lot. My app

@psych

Tanks a lot. My app is complex. I need to manage 3 levels of support teams for over 20+ products. And, since I'm working for a big corp, I'm doing this on my free time 'cause that's not my job.

But they are doing support management in Excel for crying out loud! I'll see if I can make it an PD app when I know enough dojo. That could become a nice app for it. Open source of course!

PS I'm quite happy to read your answer. I was not sure that this project was still alive seeing the dates in the forum.

Yeah, we've always been

Yeah, we've always been alive, just nobody likes to talk to us for some reason :D

Hmm... this is too bad... I

Hmm... this is too bad... I felt happy for once :D

Sounds Good

Yeah SP3 will update IE6 to version 7 but there is no indication of how well the migration will work. Microsoft is still providing support for Windows 2K but Windows 2K is pretty much only used in high security/server implementations and XP is now more prominent in the general consumer base. It wouldn't be too difficult to drop IE6 support but it wouldn't solve much, IE7 is littered with many of the same rendering issues that hindered IE6, we can't really expect solid support until version 8.
